| XAREC Syndiotactic Polystyrene (SPS) - Questra Replacement
Questra
SPS was used in many applications where its performance/cost tradeoff was favorable. However, the Questra product line was discontinued by Dow Chemical in 2004. Xarec SPS, which is made by Idemitsu and is distributed by PTS, is a successor product to Questra. Dow Chemical is re-directing all new customer inquiries to Idemitsu and also
transferring all U.L. ratings from Questra to the Idemitsu Xarec file.
Idemitsu Kosan invented SPS resin back in 1985. SPS used becasue of its heat resistance, light weight, and electrical conductivity. The resin also has superior resistance to lead-free solder, the use of which has become more widespread over the past few years due to tighter environmental regulations. This particular quality has made SPS resin a favored choice for use in the electrical components found in gas-electric hybrid cars and other automobiles. SPS resin is also being used as a subsitute for other materials in applications such as washers and dryers, where heat resistance and dimensional stability are a must.
